How do I deal with someone who is neurotic?

My current boyfriend seems to be somewhat neurotic. We've only been together for a month and I've already noticed he has neurotic behaviors. He gets anxiety over his emotions and freaks out about things and I really don't know how to handle it. I really like him and care for him but I don't know how I should handle those situations or what to say to him.

  1. Are you afraid of what he might do? It kind of comes across as if you are afraid he might freak out and do something to himself, or to you. It has only been a month and you have this kind of worry already.

I went out with a pretty anxious and neurotic girl, always worried about what people thought or were saying about her. Eventually she got kind of paranoid and started to freak out at me over nothing, or nothing that had anything to do with me. It even got physical once or twice. You could see it coming from the small things, but I ignored it cause I liked her a lot. It poisoned the relationship- no fun at all.

If you think you are in any sort of risky situation, you should think about yourself and your safety. If it isn't that serious, no problem saying you want to take some time. If it is, you really should try to get him some help.

Best you can say is calm down, it will be ok- that you are there for him. If that doesn't work, and it still is causing you to worry, maybe you are not with the best person for you...

  2. suggest a therapist for him and find the root of his problems and help him learn how to cope with his emotions and fears....do things with him that he enjoys, his hobbies and all oh and introduce him to yoga and meditation

i sympathize with a neurotic more than anyone else cause i've met so many people like that ..aswell as myself

  3. Talk to him about it, call the cops, talk to his parents, do any of those.

    (in no specific order)

or you could do all three :)

  4. every one has thier quirks... if you love him, accept him as he is...and hope he would do the same for you.
