Question:

How do I decipher the meaning of a nightmare that I had?

Nightmare: I was at home, using the sink that I normally use to wash dishes, except this time there weren't any dishes.

First I saw a dirty object inside a piece of lace. I rinsed it under the water, and most of the dirt was removed, enough to distinguish its shape under the lace as a tarnished old ring.

Next I found another item to wash under the sink, again under a piece of transparent dirty old lace. I rinsed it under the sink until I could distinguish its shape as an old cake ornament of a husband and wife. This would have been at the top of a wedding cake, but this was too dirty to use for this, but it was as clean as I could make it.

As I was about to lay it aside the drainboard, where I put the objects I was done washing, an unseen force, took my hands, and forced me to continue holding them under water to continue cleaning them. I couldn't get free, the harder I tried the tighter it held them. I woke up in a panic. What does this mean?

  1. wow thats a pretty intense dream...

well, i dont really know anything about you personally, but if i were to help decipher this nightmare of yours, i am going to assume that you are either married, or tinking of getting married.

firstly, i beleive that both the ring and the cake ornament reprisent the sacrament and commitment of marrage, and the action of you scrubbing the dirt away (if you are married) means that you would like to simply resolve the tension that you (may) have with your partner. if you are not married, the action of scrubbing the dirt may just be a symbolisation of you searching for the right guy (symbolised by the ring) out of all of the others (symbolised by the dirt).

the second part of this dream, where you try to pull your hands from the sink but an unknown force forces them back, may symbolise your fear or regret for marrage. sadly, generally women are required to do the dirty jobs of cleaning and washing, the unknown force may simply symbolise your feelings of being trapped in a troubled marrage, or it could be your fear of becoming a full commitment housewife who's life does not exist outside of the kitchen.

well, im not an expert, but that is my reasoning of this dream.

however, if active dreams like this do occurr, you may want to see a professional for help.

    thank you   ; D

  2. There is theory that you should take all the nouns in the dream and  write down all the associations that particular noun has in your life. what it means to you. what you associate with that word. Then see if that is needed in your life or if it is currently present in your life and in what way.  Like say, what do you associate with dirty dishes or lace ?  Free associate with some of the nouns in your dream and see what you come up with.

  3. You feel guilty because you ruined a marriage.

You feel guilty for engaging in illicit sexual activities.

(Lace covered dirty objects = soiled symbols of wholesome purity) - (forced hand rinsing = acknowledgement of misdeeds).
