  1. The 8 ball is the last ball that you make. Once you have made all of your balls, either solid (small numbers) or stripes (big numbers) you then "Call" the 8 ball by telling your opponent "8 ball in the Side/Corner pocket" say it any way you want as long as you make it clear to your opponent which pocket is the intended pocket - the 8 ball cannot be used as part of a combination on the last shot. Some people use a marker such as the cue chalk to mark the pocket which you will be shooting the 8 ball into. This is a good practice if you are in a loud room.

8 ball is a Call Shot game so you if you must use a bank shot you must call the bank shot, how many rails etc.

  2. Depends on if you are in a league or not. In most bar and pool room games, you only need to say aloud which pocket and point at it. In many leagues you need to mark the pocket with an object. No league allows you to use chalk to mark a pocket. I use my thread cover.

  3. Under BCA (world-standardized) rules, if the shot is obvious, you don't need to verbally or physically declare it.  If there is any question as to the designated pocket, simply calling the pocket and pointing if necessary will suffice.  Such situations would include bank shots, kick shots, caroms, and combinations where there could be some debate as to the intended pocket.  This goes for any shot, not just the 8-ball.  You never need to indicate any details, such as the number of cushions, kisses, caroms, or combinations.  All "call shot" pocket billiards games only require that you indicate ball and pocket under world-standardized rules.  This may not be the case in certain leagues.  Now if you are playing the 8-ball, combinations won't be an option.  Under certain league rules, you are required to place a marker of some sort by the pocket.  It might be a cube of chalk (which I've seen before), a coin, or some other designated marker.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  4. You have to call a pocket when you are finishing the game of 8 ball.  Choose the pocket that is easiest to put the 8 ball into.  Don't scratch!  That means letting the cue ball go into a pocket too.  Also it's a good idea to play call pocket on all your shots so there won't be any slop and it will make you a better pool player in the long run.  Have fun!

  5. I think this person is speaking of Yahoo Pool. Just double click on the pocket you want it to go in. The flashing red area will then appear on top of it.
