I am making beading bra straps as gifts and have 6mm elastic that I need to put on a needle to thread the seed beads. What type of needle will have an eye large enough to thread a 6mm thread?

  1. You'll never get 6mm elastic through seed beads...  Are you trying to sew the beads to the elastic?  Use a beading needle...

  2. You can always make your own needle for threading beads. Use a fine wire (26 gauge or so works well, about 4-6 inches long) and fold it in half. Put the elastic into the loop of wire and twist the wire to form a needle around the elastic. String beads onto the needle and presto! If you are sewing beads onto the elastic, like bead embroidery, just about any needle will do the trick (sewing needle, beading needle, etc)

  3. i think you mean .6mm thread, right?  or .06mm thread?  try a beading needle, or even a flexible beading needle, that you can curve a bit (the eyes are a good size and they collapse when they go thru the beads).  if it's worth 20 bucks to you, you could get a beader, you pour the seed beads in and spin it, and the curved needle just 'picks them up'... they're great.  personally, i just pour them in a bowl and spin the bowl... cheaper than the beader. ;)

    Good luck!!

  4. As stated, 6mm won't go thru seed beads.  But here's a link to show you an open eye needle that the elastic will go through.

These are usually available at your craft stores.  I use them for my larger thread and bead sizes a lot.

  5. try to stick it through the middle and see
