  1. there are two popular ways.  You can go to the start menu, click "run", type in "msconfig" and go to the startup tab at the end of the window that pops up.

Or you can download "Autoruns" which is also free, but with many more features.

    Autoruns:

  2. if you're using windows xp, click start > Run > type "msconfig" on the open space then click ok. you can see the startup tab there, click it and uncheck the programs you want to disable.

note: you will be set to selective startup, if you want to enable them again, just select "normal startup"on the general tab.

  3. You need these programs, you just don't need them to slow down your start-up, right? Click on Start, Run and type "msconfig" without the quote marks. When it opens, click on Startup on the right. Remove the checkmark by the one program you don't want to start. Then close the tab and have a little argument with XP about whether or not you changed things. Of course you changed them! DO NOT remove more than one item at a time or you will have more problems than you have now.

  4. Use Hijackthis

  5. Click start then run and type in msconfig,go to the startup tab and uncheck what you don't want starting.Actually, you can uncheck everything but your anti-virus and firewall if you want.
