I had two birds named Freddy and Isabella and Freddy died. I dont know how but he could have had a disease and I am going to get a new bird to replace it but if Freddy did have a disease I need to clean the cage so that the new bird or Isabella doesn't get the disease but I read a thing and it said that soap and chemicals can kill birds so I have no way of cleaning the cage from the possible disease.

What do I do?

  1. take her out....place her into a clean cage and take her to a vet to be screened for the illness. birds trasmit diseases via the air most of the time. she needs to be treated before you get a new bird. before you bring a new bird home it will also need to be screened and then quaranteened for a few days away from your healthy bird.

you take apart the infected cage and get rubber gloves, hot water and bleach. scrub every wire and every corner get a toothbrush for the food cups to get into the corners. mix the beach according to the directions on the bottle. you do not want too much bleach. make sure the bleach is 110% out of the food cups and cage. Dry the parts, toys and put the cage back together.
