How do I dispose of old VHS tapes?

To be enviornmentally safe I don't want to just throw my grandmother's collection of VHS tapes into the trash. Is there a better way of disposing of them?

Don't throw them out at all...Donate them to local shelters,retirement homes and rehab centers.  Most of these places are underfunded and could use donated things..And Most still use VCR tapes....A good movie old or new can sometimes make you forget where you are...

donate them to a nursing home or a give them to  a thrift store. people like to shop there and they actually watch tapes still .

I go with the other people and your should donate them to people that have a VHS player and that can use them

Hi Sadonya H,

We have a retirement apartment complex near us. I took about 100 of our old tapes over there and they were grateful to get them. They have a "video room" that the residents use. It is equipped with VHS and DVD so they are able to watch movies with their friends.

They were very happy to have the tapes and I felt good knowing they would be used and enjoyed instead of piling up in a landfill.
