I have a fabulous friend with a wonderful son who are in need of some good fun and funds. My friend's son has just been re-diagnosed with brain cancer that he has been in remission with for 5 years. He also has two additional brain tumors. My heart is breaking for them and I want to help and this seems like the only contribution I can make! I'm thinking of doing some kind of community event such as a big Cornhole tournament or a bowling event with a raffle. I want to make it fun for her son who is 14 years old.

Any suggestions about past events or fundraisers that anyone has had would be GREATLY appreciated.

  1. if you no anyone that rides motorcycles you could get a poker run going or motorcycle rally in your area or just get like a building donated for a benefit and put flyers out for this occasion and go to different businesses and get donations and auction some of the stuff off at the benefit. this will work like no tomorrow im having to do this myself in southeastern new mexico but something like this will work anywhere. there are so many people out there willing to help in any way they can. i have had to have a brain tumor removed feb 08 parotid tumor removed 6 08 and still have a fybroid tumor and no insurance and people are doing these type functions to help me out and they just found something in my right breast . you could go to your local private (clubs-bars) etc. like the EAGLES , VFW or somewhere like that and they should be able to give some direction . good luck to you

  2. A Community Carnival is always a sure bet. Try to get one of your local radio stations involved, have them come and promote the event and themselves, it's good free advertising. For such a cause, it shouldn't be difficult.

Next check your local rental stores for rides and games...most carry a selection of bounce rides and fun things....again be upfront and see what they can do about discounting or even donating. Cotton Candy machines, popcorn machines,  Sno Cone machines, chocolate fountains, dunk tanks, tents, tables and chairs..Get a Raffle item, hopefully donated or reduced...and let the fun begin.

Getting the community onboard shouldn't be difficult for such a great cause. Get the Police and Firefighters invovled also...they know lots of people who can help with volunteers etc...

I commend you for your efforts and thoughtfulness to your good friend and her son. You are truely a good person and I wish you much success in this endeavor...and ya'll will be in my thoughts. Good luck!!

  3. Neighborhood yard sales and QVC auctions are fun.
