How do I do an American moss stitch starting with an odd number of stitches?

I don't want it to look like a British moss stitch (seed stitch). But all the directions I see say to start with an even number of stitches. But the bag I'm making has 37 stitches. So how do I do it with an odd number?

  1. The moss stitch does not care if you do even or odds.  All you do is knit one stitch & purl the next.  When starting the next row, purl the knit stitches and knit the purls.  It couldnt be easier.  And, when working a square with an odd number of stitches, your rows would be easy to remember.  If you start with knit, you will start each row with a knit stitch.

  2. Yes the other answer is right . It would matter if you are doing double moss or double seed stitch ,it is 2 and 2 ,in this case it has to be an even number of stitches . Good luck .
