  2. Maybe you should go and check out a gymnastics place and get a few pointers from a coach; you might even be able to trade some self-defense lessons for a little coaching.  There are several tapes out there on martial arts gymnastics type moves and Panther Productions has an excellent one that I have my students that want to go into that type of thing for fun or to broaden their athletic skills sit and watch before they start trying to learn and do such things.  I also have a Level six gymnast as a student so she is a big help.

What you descibe is traveling and so you literally have to pull your trailing leg through much faster and also make sure your first leg and foot is not being set out to far.  Lay a heavy bag down on its side and use it to assist and put your hands down on slightly as you practice this move and pulling those legs over and through faster.  As you get better at that you will rely on the bag less while you do it.  Also make sure you are putting your first foot down close to yourself and not out away from your spot.  The place where you have your head is your spot and putting that first leg out to far compounds this problem.    In gymnastics they follow some of the same basic principles as martial arts teaching simpler techniques and mastering them before learning more difficult ones. In some ways it is like a roundoff in that you want to pull those legs and feet over quicker than you upper body and set them down close in to your spot and I would recommend that you learn how to do a round off first to help facilitate this and you should be able to find these on U-Tube.

  3. Go to a gymnastics center and get proper coaching and spotting in a safe environment. I have seen people try to throw an aerial and stall out at the top, landing very hard on their head and neck in awkward positions. It's lucky that they weren't paralyzed.

You can search for a gym near you from the link at the top of this page: http://aescougarcheer.com/Cheer101/tumbl...

    Good luck!

  4. Actually, some martial arts cover the no-hand cartwheel (muten), so this isn't in an incorrect section.

The aerial will require you to get a little more lift and a little more push. Early on, tuck in your legs to help you turn at the top. Once you get over the initial fear (that moment mid air when you think "Man, I'm not gonna make it.").

    Alright, so full walk through:

Step out as if going into a normal cartwheel, and drive the forward foot down into the ground to send yourself forward and over, but do not put your hands out. When you are upside down, tuck your legs in to continue the flip over.

As you improve, tuck your legs less and less. Eventually, you'll figure out how to land on more extended legs in a standing position.

Be careful, and when in doubt, shove your hands down into the ground to do a normal cartwheel.

  5. aerial cartwheels in the martial art section... *sigh*

we dont need an MMA section, what we need is a real martial art and a wanna be martial art section

  6. Ok so practice your cartwheel normally until you get really fluid with it. Also try to make sure you legs go up as high as possible. Once your comfortable you then do a "dive" cartwheel where you try to put your hands down at he last second while trying to keep for leg motion the same. Once your pretty sure you don't have to put your arms down until you're pretty much most way through the cartwheel, then do a cartwheel where you start off normal with your hands on the floor but then try to take them off while your halfway or past halfway through the cartwheel. Keep working on it until you can take your hands off the floor halfway through or even a little before halfway your cartwheel. When you're comfortable with both methods, then practice a full cartwheel, except try to keep your sweight off your arms. You say you can do a one handed cartwheel, so after you think you're not putting a lot of pressure on your hands, try doing a cartwheel with just your fingers and your palms off the ground. If you're doing it right and your fingers don't hurt, the trying using your pinkys. REMEMBER that you don't do this until your completely comfortable with everything before. When you doing a cartwheel with so little pressure on your fingers that you can do it with ur pinkys, then you can try an aerial. Instead of putting your arms down on the floor, place your arms sort of to your chest. Also, I see people who arch their back as they do the aerial and can work too. Also, a way of perfecting it is to do an aerial, except think more like you are swinging your legs more to the side. It's easier and has less risk than a full aerial. When you get good at this, try doing the aerial and just slowly bring your legs higher each time. Also, think that when you take off, one foot leaves the ground and the other just follows it. Don't just bring them up together.
