How do I do an axel?

I have been skating for a year now, I'm 11, and my coach is started to teach me an axel off ice, but I just cant seem to get it, what should I do?

  1. Your coach is really the best one to help you with this one.  Your coach is the one who knows your progress best and can help you when you come to a stumbling point.  

    If s/he is teaching you it off-ice first, she obviously thinks you are nearly ready to try it on ice.

    I would just trust her judgement and not feel rushed.


  2. remember to step straight forward and do a combination of a high waltz jump and a back spin in midair.

  3. you cant really tell someone how to do an axel unless you can see them do it or be there with them, but just talk to your coach and keep practicing it!

  4. I would suggest to keep working with your coach, and doing off ice training. It can take much patience and effort to land your first Axel; you just have to give yourself some time and practice, and don't get discouraged. Good luck!
