Question:

How do I do my tax return if I made less than $6000?

I made roughly $2000 this financial year and I have some withheld tax. I understand that if I made less than $6000 I should be able to claim all my tax back. Is there a simple way to do this without having to fill in a tax return?

Should I simply go to the ATO?

Thanks in advance,

Pete

  1. Just ask a friend to do it, don't waste money paying considering you will get it all back. really you should do it yourself and as it's a straight forward tax return it will help for when you start earning more money and are more familiar with the way tax works.

Going by what you earned you would only have a few simple figures to fill in, so give it a go

  2. the easiest thing to do i would think is just to go to a volunteer tax return person, they might have it at a public library near you and it doesn't take more than 20 min and they tell u exactly what o do.

  3. you still have to fill out a tax return, if you go to a tax place it generally doesnt take long, i went to tax tips and got my refund on the spot but there is a $100 fee

  4. If you earn less then $6000 then you are not obliged to lodge a tax return. If you have paid tax on these earnings however you will need to lodge a claim to receive these back.

  5. Why not get used to doing it yourself.  Go to the Australian Taxation Office website and do it online. Learn as you go, and in future years It will save you a lot of money by not having to pay a tax agent or accountant to do it for you.

  6. www.ato.gov.au

you can download special forms for this incident.
