Question:

How do I document my community service hours for court?

I can call the court and ask, but seeing that they are closed right now, I figured I'd try to get an idea on here.

I was in a car accident recently and the judge ordered me to do 20 hours of community service, which I have started to do this past weekend. How do I document this? Someone recommended that I get the person in charge where I volunteer at to write a letter, but that seems like a lot to ask of someone. Is there just some sort of form I can use?

  1. Yes, make your own form that says.......I ___________________ hereby confirm that your name was here volunteering as part of community service on March ??2008 from 1pm - 4pm.Signed______________________________... keep a form like this with you and have wherever you go sign it for you.  Have them put their title and number on it too.  Good luck!

  2. Most organization keep a record of the volunteer hours so asking for a letter is generally not an imposition. You can write it yourself, for that matter but have them sign it. best if on their letterhead so copy your letter onto their paper using a copy machine. (look at their form so you know what margins to use)

  3. Make up a standard form and have those in charge sign it. It doesn't have to be individual forms- Just one that all can sign and attest that you attended, the date you attended and the hours etc...
