How do I download Adobe Flash Player when I have XP with that Active X Control?

Question

I try to download flash player but that active X pops up and no matter which way I click, whether I exit out, say yes or say no, the player never fully installs. I have done it 5-6 times now and it is getting quite frustrating. Any ideas how to make this work before I am forced to take a sledge hammer to the pc?

try the standalone installer - get it here

once downloaded, close your browser THEN install flash player; hope it works
