My drill seems too slow to make dent.

  1. You need to use a masonry drill bit with a hammer drill.  Hammer drills have a mode that makes the drill bit "hammer" in-and-out at the cement at the same time as it rotates which makes it drill faster.   If you need to drill quite deep, you should also pull the bit out of the hole occasionally to clear out any dust that accumulates while you're drilling.    A hammer drill can be expensive if you don't use it often, but you should be able to rent or borrow one.     Oh, and earplugs might be useful too - they can be loud after a while.

  3. Drilling a hole into concrete is not much different from drilling into wood. You can use your handheld drill, but if you have large holes (1/2 inch/ 1.2 cm) or larger), or many holes to drill, consider renting a hammer drill or rotary hammer. You will need a carbide-tipped masonry drill bit the size of the hole.
