Question:

How do I drive glazier points into a picture frame?

I decided to assemble a picture frame myself to save from paying the "assembly fee". I get home, place the glass, the art, and the backboard inside the frame. The salesperson recommended glazier points to hold it all in.

But I cannot find a way to drive the glazier points into the frame. I've tried tapping it in with a hammer/screwdriver, but this just flattens the little tab on the glazier points. On top of that, my frame seems to be made out of some cast resin material.

How can I drive glazier points into my hard/dense picture frame?

  1. You don't drive glazier points into a hard/dense picture frame.

Glazier points are pushed into soft pine or fir window frames to hold the glass in place.  Staples (from a staple gun) are commonly used on the backside of picture frames.

  2. If you are trying to install points this is how:

Lay the frame down flat on a table front DOWN

Lay the glass in the frame.

Put a point down on the glass--flat side down with the point pointing toward the frame, like a puck on an air hockey table.

Take a small putty knife and put it on the point-the point will be flat with a little piece sticking up,that's where your putty knife goes.

Slide the point,on the glass, over to the frame.

When the point comes into contact with the wood,GENTLY apply pressure with the putty knife and sort of wiggle it back and forth till it goes in the wood.DO NOT PRESS DOWN ON THE GLASS--press in to the wood---presto a clip is in,repeat as needed

  3. Grip them with a pair of Needle nosed pliers and simply "Push" them in! Works great!

  4. U can drive the tabs into the resin wood frame with a s***w driver and a hammer.  Just place the frame against the wall for support and drive away.  U need the wall for support, it will go in.
