How do I edit a long video into parts using a mac???

I have iMovie and iDVD. I have a video that is about 30 minutes long, and I want to split it into about 3 parts so I can put it on Youtube.

  1. Can you explain what movie program you are using - is it iMovie?  What exactly do you want to do with it?  Do you want to edit and shorten it or make it many smaller movies with different file names?
