Question:

How do I email a MOV file?

I have several MOV files on my computer. They were recorded from my Kodak Digital Camera. Every time I try to email one, it will not work. I am told it is too big. Some say it can't be over 10MB. Others say just ZIP it up. I have no idea what they are talking about or how that will help. Others say to put them on a website, but I do not wish to share my family recordings with strangers. Please help.

  1. Chances are they are too big. You can try hosting them on a download site and that way you can share the links with your friends and family members without posting them on a video site.

  2. How large are the files? If they are under 20 MB you may be able to send them via gmail, but there's no guarantee that the recipients will be able to receive such large attachments. Emailing such large attachments is not a great idea for a number of reasons.

Have the files hosted online somewhere that allows you to password protect the files.

  3. There are a number of ways to solve this. You can encode them using something like VLC Media player downloadable from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ , zipping probably won't make it small enough but probably the easiest option is to upload it to the internet like someone suggested to you. However, people cannot download the file unless you give them the link, so it removes any chance of someone finding it without you authorising them. A site like http://www.rapidshare.com you can upload quite large files. Then, once it is uploaded, rapidshare will give you a link and you give that link to your family (or whoever you are sending the file to).
