I started out with 3 blue poppy plants 4 years ago, now I'm down to 1 plant. This poppy is not reseeding itself and I do not want to lose this last plant without getting some seeds from it. What is the best way for me to get the seeds and when should I start trying to grow the seeds. I've never done this before. Normally I will but the plant, ot the bulb, but unfortunately I can't find anymore blue poppy plants around my area. Any advice would be great.

  1. Are you even getting seed in the capsules?  They are self fruitful but if they are not reseeding, your climate may be too warm. You can collect the seed try starting it under controlled conditions.  Problem is they like cool or even cold, moist conditions which are also great for disease development.

  2. If you call (202) 307-1000 and tell them what you want to do, they will help you. They are experts in Poppy seed harvesting and know all the ins and outs of the Poppy plant and the many types.

These are experts, and you can't go wrong.
