Question:

How do I feel attractive when I'm pregnant?

I'm 26 wks pregnant. I cut all my long hair off before finding out, and we recently moved. There are no maternity stores within 60 miles, and even the small Wal-Mart here doesn't offer maternity clothes. I have a toddler running around, stretch marks all over my belly, and even when my husband tells me I'm beautiful I don't believe it. Any suggestions what I can do? No pampering manicures for us, as there is no room in our budget these days....

  1. This is all mental.  You are growing a person inside you.  Give yourself a break.  You have to remind yourself of who you are.  You're a mom.  And as moms we take the back seat when it comes to pampering.  Find your calm.  Go to the park, ALONE, and just sit on the bench.  Read, or just sit or whatever.  Get away from the mommy track even if it's just for a few minutes.  You have to feel beautiful inside first before you will be ok with the outside.  Good luck.

  2. As cheesy as this may sound, I have always found the miracle of pregnancy to be BEAUTIFUL. Pregnant women are positively adorable and radiant, and I can't wait until I'm ready to have children and plan a pregnancy myself!

  3. Yeah, if you have a bathtub... take advantage of it! We only have a shower and I so badly would love to just relax in a bath!

I've started applying lotions like crazy. So the other night after my shower, I followed with my usual lotion routine but as an added bonus, I painted my toenails (while I can still see them! lol) and it made me feel better. So I basically pampered myself. So have your hubby watch the little one while you take some time for yourself.

Maybe have your husband give you a massage? That always makes me feel relaxed and s**y. Or when I can get my boyfriend to comb my hair.. I just feel so pampered and s**y! But he hardly ever will anymore! lol

  4. I'm 19 and i always thought pregnant woman are so beautiful theres a special glow seriously... dont feel unattractive... your belly makes you look gorgeous even though I'm not looking at you i can guarantee it enjoy your pregnant experience while it lasts

  5. i'm 33 weeks and i feel pretty s**y. you know you can buy maturity cloths on line right? ebay too!

  6. you can do a manicure yourself!!!.... and also, you can take a beauty session sponsored by you. No money does not mean no pampering!...

I have to be honest... i dont wear that much maternity clothes... i LOVE showing my belly with my regular tshirts. I have some pants and yeah, some shirts and all, but normally, i wear what i wore before and it makes me feel better... with pregnancy stuff i look way bigger.... so i rather use this.

You can also tell your husband to take your other baby away for a while for "solo-time", and when he gets back, you can be all pampered and s**y for him!

  7. I laughed when I saw this question, because I asked my friend the exact same question last night! I've just been given the most horrible, massive and unflattering maternity trousers for work that I have to hold up with the leg of a pair of tights for now as I can't get into town until the weekend. I don't think I've ever felt more unattractive!

I'm also in the same position financially, we don't have a lot of money either so a "pampering weekend at the spa" would be out for us!

Maybe a nice warm bath a few nights a week with some baby oil and candles would be both relaxing and make you feel better about yourself (might help with the stretch marks too, you never know!) because often when you get out of the bath, wrapped in a big fluffy towel, you do feel clean, s**y and attractive.

Even though we can't afford a pedicure or manicure, we could still soak our feet in a bucket of water, cut our toenails (while we can still reach them comfortably!) and paint them. Same with fingernails, just a coat of clear varnish can make all the difference.

I'm glad your husband is telling you that you look beautiful - I bet he can see something in you that you're missing when you look at yourself!

I think that the feeling of attractiveness mostly somes from inside. Although most mornings I wake up, and while I'm cleaning my teeth I look in the mirror and think "eurgh" perhaps if we looked in the mirror, saw past the dark circles, baggy oversized outfits and glazed eyes, we'd see a pregnant woman who is creating life inside her, which must be one of the greatest and most amazing things a woman can do. So instead of slumping away from the mirror and putting a bag over our heads, we should stand up straighter, shoulders back, and smile with our nicely cleaned, sparkly teeth!

Even if I haven't helped you, I've made myself feel marginally better!  Hope we both feel better in the weeks to come.

  8. Take a nice long bath, get your hubby to give you a message, get your toddler to comb your hair!!!  Try a new pitstick, all these things will make you feel better!  I also used to do my nails and makeup too, even though I worked construction because I just felt put together and it boosted my confidence!

  9. Just focus on what is best for your baby, you probably really do look beautiful, but you'll probably never feel beautiful while you are pregnant. Try dressing up, doing your hair a different style, add some fake hair to your short hair.

  10. Put on all your make-up and do your hair really nice and pretty. Draw a warm bath, and have your husband come in the bathroom with you and massage you while you're in the tub!

You can also have him give you a pedi. Just get equal parts brown sugar and olive oil and he can use this to scrub your feet and the bottom half of your legs!

    Good Luck!

  11. I know how it goes with no manicures and no maternity stores around. All I've got close by is wal mart as well. Buy some low rise jeans. They aren't really uncomfortable for me and I'm as far along as you are. Maybe some cute little spring blouses that are long enough to cover if you are self conscious of your stretch marks (I know I am). I taught myself to do my own manicures and there are a lot of hair products that are cheap enough that are actually really good for your hair. Just because it's short doesn't mean it can't be s**y. look up some web sites to see what kind of styles with your length will go good with your face type.

My husband buys me little things every once in a while to let me know he thinks I'm still beautiful and after saying it so much, he's starting to be believable and it actually makes me feel good about myself. Especially considering he has this weird obsession with my belly now that makes me not feel self conscious about it since I can tell he obviously enjoys looking at it and touching it constantly, even if it is just to feel and see the baby move.
