Question:

How do I feel more natural with my acting?

I have 2 possible auditions for short films coming up somewhat fast. The last audition I went to in April was NOT in any way my best acting. Later, as I looked back onto it I realized that I was still in the "theater theme" of acting. I am having a really hard time switching from theater acting (because it has to be so exagerated-facially etc...) and film acting. I have done years of theater acting. I know I need to make it a little more natural and feel the emotion just as much. Any tips on how to do this? Or do you have any methods that have worked for you or other people in the past? Please help- thanks so much!

  1. I suggest taking an improvisation class at your local theater. Improv has to be very natural: you go with your instincts and there is not time to have a second thought about what feelings or characters you are portraying.

  2. Try imagining that u ARE the person ur pretending to be.Like you've been them ur whole life and experienced what they experienced. Try looking at things from their prospective.

U prolly have tried this all ready, but if u havn't, try,cuz it works for me. U just truly have to believe. I can make myself cry when doing this.

  3. From your experience, I don't know if I'll be able to be of any help. But this is what I did for the Shakespeare Festival. It was a monologue, but it was with a small audience, and so I'd think there were similarities between the two.

First - obviously - makes sure that you have the script memorized. That helps a lot. Second, think ahead of how the character would act in a situation. For example, I had to play Baptista in the Taming of the Shrew. But we ad-libed a LOT, so I had to get a good feel for how he (she, in this case) would react if, for example, it started raining pretty heavy - outdoor stage - or if a baby wouldn't be quiet. Now, you probably won't have to deal with that, if they're short movies. But still, better be prepared, and all that.

Anyways, hope I've been helpful, and that you act well.

  4. Practicing in front of a mirror is worthless.  What you need to do is learn how to act. Stage acting does not have to be so exaggerated, unless that is the technique  needed to make it a success, like a mellerdammer. Anyway, acting is not pretending.  Acting is reacting to stimuli honestly and deeply without filters (worrying about what people will think of you), So just stop pretending and start reacting. Speak the lines honestly and with real meaning, not with pretense.

  5. just become the person.  first, memorize the lines, and gestures ande stuff. and add emotions. and then become the person it's pretty simple

  6. I say if you know what part you want to play, find a movie or something and watch how the person acts and practice. and soon enough you will get comfortable with the part

  7. Just try being your character. Act as if you ARE the person, not as if you're playing them. And remember to act like a normal person. Not someone trying to be normal.

+ how did you get auditions????????

I've been looking the last couple of months and I can't find any.
