How do I figure out sizing on a hat I'm knitting?

I'm going to be knitting this hat:

But the pattern doesn't give me a gauge to work off of. The yarn I plan on using is 4 Med, but I'm not sure what size needles to use to make it in a size adult M. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Use size 8 US or 5mm in Canada (size 6 in UK)  The pattern is written for medium weight yarn (worsted) and that number of stitches should be for women's size.  Hats don't have many sizes, generally... baby, toddler, child & adult because they're stretchy.
