It took 2.50 minutes with current of 2.00 A to plate out all the silver from 0.270 L of solution containing Ag^ . What was the original concentration of Ag^ in the solution?

  1. find Coulombs :

    Coulombs = 2.00 amps ( 170 seconds)= 340 coulombs

    find moles of electrons:

    340 Coulombs @ 96,500 Coulombs / mole electrons= 3.52e-3 moles of e-

    becausse Ag+1 --> Ag  there is 1 mole of electrons taken by 1 mole Ag+1, so:

    3.52e-3 moles of e- equals 3.52e-3 moles of Ag+

    find molarity:

    3.52e-3 moles of Ag+ / 0.270 litres = 0.0130 molar Silver ion

    your answer:  0.0130 molar Silver ion
