We currently live on an AFB in MS and we are having major issues with the house we live in. Through out the house, we have AC vents that are full of mold and you can't walk into our house without smelling it. Mold is found in the vents in our kitchen, dinning room, living room, office area and our master bedroom.

We called several times to maintenance and we were to that it was not an emergency and not a health concern.

I have severe asthma and i've been suffering from shortness of breath, tight chest, and watery eyes for the last week. I'm also worried about my 20 month old son breathing in this air.

I want to know how to file a complaint about this. The maintenance obviously has other things to do, and our situation is not much of a priority. My family is getting ill over the situation and we honestly don't know what to do.

Here are some pictures of the vents downstairs (Kitchen and Dinning room.)

  1. You need to take these pictures and give them to the inspector general of your base.  He is required to do something about it but if he doesn't then you can go to your local congressman and file a complaint.

  2. Go PERSONALLY (don't call) to the housing office.  Don't talk to a clerk. Ask to talk to the department head.  Don't take no for an answer.  Also, take the photos to medical and tell them about your breathing problems.  Take your photos. If they won't do anything, tell them you will take the photos to the base commander.  Don't let them stonewall you. Give them THREE days to do something.   Or tell them you'll go to the media.  That will get their attention.  The media LOVES dirt on the military (no pun intended).

The ducting definitely needs cleaning.  I just had mine cleaned in April after several years.  I was surprised how dirty they were.

Another reason I refused to live in military housing after the first time.
