How do I file a freedom of information act request?

I'd like to get access to any proposed plans to federally regulate the internet that have not been classified. Also, is it legal for me to then post these files in a blog entry?

  1. You'd have to contact the FCC or whoever you think has these plans.  They do have the right to keep future plans confidential, though, so it may be tough.

If you can locate them, they can be posted, yes.

  2. found a link for you to look at, has all the info u will need, and yes, if you can obtain the information i dont see why you couldnt post it in a blog

  3. The place to start is the US Congress, since a federal law would be needed to regulate the internet, probably. You can search proposed laws ("bills") online.

The main federal agencies would be the FCC and the FTC, though other agencies might have developed proposals for their particular areas of responsibility. All federal agencies have online forms for FOIA requests

If you get them, you can use them. They are public records.
