How do I find Investors in my area?

I am starting a business and I am looking for funding. I plan on using sponsorships but I also need investors as well.

Set up a meeting, put an ad in a paper, get a salesperson from a store to make a speech, and have the attendees invest in your great idea.  Get the salesperson to make an investment too so that he will have his heart in his speech.
