I know, this is a stupid question, but I'm very new to all of this. I just found out that I am pregnant. I don't have a regular doctor (or insurance for that matter!) How can I find a doctor or clinic to get started on prenatal care for my baby?

  1. I would first find out if you can apply for pcap or medicaid those are insurances for people with a certain income and no insurance. Also pcap helps out with food for you and the baby. Once you apply for that they will be able to assist you in finding a dr that will accept that insurance. Also a lot of hospital and dr's office have some kind of a financial assist program. I work in a hugh dr's office with one of the largest hospitals in the area. There is always someone out there willing to help!! you just have to find it!! good luck!

  2. well in australia you just go to a gp they are qualified to do all the prenatal care however if you are in america it is my understanding you have to get an ob/gyn, so there you go.

  3. The best way to go is to ask around.  Find out who local women have gone to and ask their experiences.  Just because you find a name in a phone book does not mean that OB is any good.

Once you find an OB, don;t feel pressured o stay with him/her if you are not comfortable.  It is common to go to a couple OB's before you find one you click with.  this is a very special time in your life.  You want a doctor who you can share this time with in a positive way

As for insurance, you can get on Medicaid as a pregnant woman.  You will want to get this established as soon as possible as most OB's will not see you unless you have insurance or can pay cash.

    Best of luck to you!

  4. First I would check to see if you can get medicare. Look around for womans clinics, they can be a lot of help. Some of them specialize in woman with medicare cause you need to show proof of pregnancy. Good luck to you.

  5. Depending on which state you live in maybe you can get medicare.

  6. Look in the yellow pages for an OB.
