How do I find and listen to a pirate radio station?

I think pirate radio is very interesting, how do I find a station in my area and what do I do to listen to it, can I do it on a normal radio or do I need something special....

There are two general types of pirate radio-

One is broadcast, this means that they play music and talk etc, but no-one talks back. For this, you will need a short wave receiver capable of receiving the 7 megahertz/ 40 meter band.

The second type is simular to amateur (ham) radio, where people talk back and forth on frequencies that they are not licensed for. The majority of these frequencies fall below the CB band, from 25 to 26.955 MHZ in USB,LSB, and AM. And again in a higher range above CB but below the 10 meter amateur band, 27.415 to 27.900.

Why listen to pirates when you can be one? It's great fun.
