How do I find if I have a local theatre or drama group ?

am new to acting and I was tolled to look for my local theatre or drama group?How do I know where to look to find if there's one in my area?am from Chicago by the way and was tolled the best place to go would be to New York or LA.So should I move there later on or stay in Chicago?

  1. You should start out in Chicago first, and then see if this is something you REALLY want to pursue. NY and LA are places where the big bucks are made - Hollywood and Broadway are the most noteable ones. :P Search around your area - do some googling or drive around, post up flyers, whatever - see where the nearest and best theater is and check it out. If theyre holding auditions, go for it! Just experiment for now.


  2. Chicago actually has a really good theatre scene- almost rivaling that of NYC.

    There should be LOTS of opportunities. Pick up a Chicago Reader or one of the other trade papers you can find at coffee shops or bookstores or someplace...

  3. Chicago's a great theater town, stay where you are for now at least. Use google and any connections you have with directors, friends, castmates, etc and look for auditions. If you're just gonna make the jump without going to college, try to get an agent. If you MUST move, make sure you know what you're getting into. LA is more focused on film and tv, New York is the big theater city.
