I'm trying to set up a wireless connection at home( through USB flash drive) and when I insert it into my laptop it asks for a network key(or WEP key). I want to know how do I find the network on my computer because I don't see it anywhere...

  1. The WEP key (used to secure a wireless network) will be on the router, not on your computer.  You have to have the same key that is used on the router on your computer to be able to connect to the network.  Typically you can log into your router via an IP address (like http://192.168.1.1) if you connect to it via a network cable.  In there you should see some web pages that help you configure your network - one of the pages will contain the WEP key that was chosen.

  2. Ok, go to any computer with the router plugged into it.

    Open up the web browser:

Depending on what router you have this is the information you need to enter your router's IP Address. Upon typing in your router's ip address and pressing enter you'll be prompted to enter a username and password. Search the list below to see which router brand you have.

After you enter username/password you'll be granted access to change your router's settings. Go to wireless network/setup page. Click on a wifi tab. Create a WEP key, WPA, or WPA2 (if your laptop supports it, since it's the safest and secure way to surf)

  3. It is not on your computer.  It is in your router.  If you did not write it down, go to the computer attached to your router, login in.  Go to the wireless page, then to the security part.  The WEP info will be there.

Exact info is different for each router but that is the general idea.
