How do I find my grandfather who put my father up for adoption.?

He was in the military in Japan. I only have his name, but no other information.

Is it an unusual or common name.  If you have a name you can find him.

Google his name, if he died in the war, or he was a high ranking there may be a page dedicated to him and those who died.
