How do I find old newspaper articles, are there archives available online?

  1. Yes, there are archives, such as ProQuest. However, most of these sites require a paid subscription. Your public library might allow some sort of access, and if you belong to a college or university you can probably get access as well.

    Also, the New York Times offers free back issues online going back to 1987.


  2. Some papers offer archives online, but like others have said, it might be a subscription you have to get. There are things like ProQuest but you might be overwhelmed. If this is a local paper you are trying to get information from, perhaps just go to their office location and see if they have them archived there (most usually do).

If you go to http://dailysource.org, they have a great and free search box that lets you seach their site for past news articles that they hand-picked from thousands of resources to go on their site. Just go to the search box on the left hand column and use the drop-down box to search their Site instead of Web and then type in what you topic you want.
