  1. google search

  2. oh gosh. just google it.

  3. Do you want to get certified in California or do you want to dive the many sites in California?

If you would like to get certified/trained, then you should visit the local dive shops (LDS) near you and talk to the instructors.  In addition, you can ask questions on recommendations of instructors and LDS on a scuba forum likes ScubaBoard.  ScubaBoard has a Northern California and a Southern California sub forum.

If you are interested in sites, one of the best sources information is a recently produced DVD called "Discover California Diving".  Great production quality and a lot of information.   Again, you can ask more specific questions on ScubaBoard.

  4. Don is correct -- a local dive shop is the best place to start.

If you are not yet certified, they can arrange for that.  Visit several shops and understand their programs and prices.  Be sure you are comparing apples to apples (some prices may be all inclusive and others may not) and find a shop you are comfortable with.

If you are certified, a LDS is also a great place to start.  They are great sources of info about local dives (hazards, current conditions, things to look for, etc.) and often offer free shop dives.  This is a great way to meet other divers and learn a dive site.

  5. It really freakin amazes me that people come to yahoo, which is a search engine, and ask how to find out about stuff...
