  1. You could try for an obituary.

    http://www.tedpack.org/obit.html

    tells how.

  2. Which town/city?

    Go to whitepages.com

Fill out the request box for businesses

Type in funeral homes, the name of the town/city, where the person lived, died or was buried, and the State abbreviation, then click on search.

Be patient, as it takes a few minutes to load.

    Contact the funeral homes.

Tell them you will be visiting the area and would like to place flowers on an old friends grave, but don't know where he/she is buried. This one always works for me!

    Or:

Contact the Bureau of Vital Statistic of Alaska, request an application for a death certificate, fill it out, pay the fee (use a money order, checks take longer to clear).

If you are not the parent, spouse, sibling, child, nearest of kin of the deceased, your request may be denied.

    P.S.

Go to hss.state.ak.us for info on obtaining a death certificate from Alaska.

  3. Try the Social Security Death Index (SSDI).  It is showing 2,214 deaths for 2002 in Alaska. It will tell you the person's date of birth/death last known residence, state SSN was issued and whether they were in the military.

Click on this link, scroll to the bottom of the page and enter the name of deceased.

    Hope it helps.

  4. hm i think if it has been over a year, you probably wont find free public records online.

they usually charge for death certificates.

i really dont know to be honest. google it!
