The spring of a pinball shooter has a spring constant of 200N/m and is compressed 5cm so that a 50 gram metal ball can be shot out the other end. How fast will the ball leave the shooter?

  1. Work out the amount of force that the spring will have if it is compressed by 5cm.

    Then, work out the speed of the ball if that amount of force is applied to it from standstill.

    To start you off (since I'm not going to solve it for you), the amount of compression is 5cm, so that is 0.05m, where the spring has a force constant of 200N/m therefore.......

    The ball weighs 50g, so the force of X (that you work out earlier), using F=ma and re-arranging to find a should give you the answer.
