I had that same problem. I had a relative that I rarely see that I thought may have died. I could not just call his wife and ask if he was dead. The site below was the only one that had a person with his name and city listed on it. I then verified it with his temple. Most sites that offer to tell you if someone has died will at some point ask for a fee. Try this one.
