How do I find out if the tinted windows on my car are a legal tint?

I bought a car and was told by the previous owner that the tint was legal. I got pulled over and was issued a ticket for that.

goto local police department, and ask about window tint law. They should happily tell you what the limit is.

You will have to go to the local police department and ask for an officer to check the tint. They have a machine that uses suction cups to attach leads to the window. one on each side. Then the machine emits a light through the window. The reading is the amount of light passing through the tint. 70 percent would mean that you have 30 percent tint. 35 percent tint is mostly legal in the US. (At least for trucks) Good luck
