I've heard that some doctors may not be listed by your insurance but are covered. How do I find out?

The doctor's office say they are covered by my network, but I cannot get the name of the doctor in my network. What do I do?

  1. If you are looking in a provider listing from a book, they are usually outdated by the time they are printed as providers leave and join at a high rate.  Call the customer number on your card.  Also ask the provider what tax id they file under, since that is what the insurance company uses to determine if the doctor is in network.  Or if the doctor is part of a clinic his name might not come up but his practice name might.  Remember that some doctors are in network in one office and out of network in another office because they use a different tax id number.  Hopefully,  the doctor is new to the network.

  2. Call the customer line on your card.  Give them the name of the doctor and they will let you know.

  3. Contact the insurance company directly. Some companies use different networks for different policies. Your doctor may be in one network your insurance company uses but not in your network.
