  1. Click Start>Run.  Type cmd, press Enter.  Type ipconfig /all.  The IP Address field states the current IP address for that network adapter.

  2. go to this site

    www.whatismyip.com

You can also go to  Start->Run-> type "cmd" (with no quotes) in the run box and press enter.  When a black screen with some writing comes up type in this   "ipconfig /all" (again no quotes).  This will show your ip address along with a few other things.

  3. Bring up the Run window, type cmd, then type ipconfig. Your IP address should be listed. This is your LAN IP address though.

  4. Go to Start > Run > (and then type in the box) "cmd" (w/o quotes)

you should have a black screen pop up. Then type in "ipconfig" (w/o quotes) and it should tell it to you.

  5. You may find out the IP to your computer by:

Go to Start>Run>type 'cmd', click ok

In the command window that opened, type 'ipconfig'

Your IP address for each network adapter on the machine will be displayed.

If you are connected via a router, this will only be an internal IP on your local area network (LAN).  If this is the case, you can use a site like http://whatismyip.com/ or http://whatsmyip.org/ to view your public facing IP.

If you are using a router and want to connect to a machine behind it remotely, you will need to forward any necessary application ports to the destination LAN IP from the routers configuration page. To find out more on this, search for 'port forwarding'

  6. WINDOWS 2000, XP, OR VISTA

By default, Windows Vista is not set to show the Run command from the Start menu. You can change this in Vista Preferences or use Search to find the Run command.

To use the Search command in Windows Vista type:

From the Start menu click Search

    Type Run

    Double-click the Run shortcut

Once you have the Run command window start with step 2 below

From the Start menu select Run

Type cmd in the Run window field

    Type ipconfig /all

    MACINTOSH OS X

    Open the System Preferences application

    Click the Network icon

Select Network Status from the Show drop down field

Look for the Built-in Ethernet item, or other applicable network interface

Look for the IP address that is shown to the right

If this is too confusing, you can use an online IP address lookup tool to advise you of your IP address:

    http://whatismyipaddress.com/
