How do I find out what bank or agency owns the foreclosed house in my cul-de-sac? There is no sign on door!?

  1. This is actually a really tough one. If the property has been foreclosed it now belongs to the bank that was servicing it. But banks sell servicing contracts on a regular basis so it is tough to find out who actually owns the property.  The easist way to find out who the owner of record is would be to contact a Real Estate agent and have them get a Property Profile with a Transaction Report.  The problem is that there is rarely a legal requirement that a change of title has to be recorded, therefore, the until title gets updated the information might be incorrect.

    The bottom line is, if the title is not updated, keep checking back until it is.

    Sorry, but there are so many foreclosures going on that the records aren't getting updated as fast as they used to.


  2. Your county Recorder's Office.  They will help you. Some are online.  First you go to the Assessor's website because you know the address.  From that site you get the name and use it at the Recorder's to track them down.

  3. If the foreclosure had already happened then you can check with the recorders office or tax office to see who the new owner is.
