How do I find out what year my Fender Stratocaster is?

Is there a serial number, or a slight difference in the guitar that makes it a specific year?

  1. Find your strat's serial number, its either on the front of the headstock, or on the back of it depending on where it was made.

    Then go to http://www.guitardaterproject.org/ and click fender to the left. This is the only site i've ever found that can track serial numbers from Mexican, japanese, and american stratocasters.

Hello!  There are several sites that have information on dating Fender instruments, two of the most notable being http://www.fender.com/support/usa_instru... and http://www.provide.net/~cfh/fender.html#...  There are specific body contour, neck shape, and headstock differences between the model years; however, these features are normally used to substantiate, rather than relying on them for confirmation of a particular year.  Best regards, Dana
