How do I find out where the nearest dump is?

It's the weirdest thing but I really can't figure it out online. Also, does a town dump charge you for what you're dumping? Are they only open certain days of the week?

  1. Your best bet is to contact your local city Sanitation department.  It is more then likely that they could pick up your items free of charge.  They can also tell you where to take your hazardous waste for a free disposal as hazardous waste can not be disposed with other materials.  If you live in a large complex you can call the disposal company on the container and they will pick it up for you either free or for a small fee.  Some landfills or dumps are open a few days a week some are open until they meet their max capacity for the day.  You would have to contact them for the hours.  But I would try the first suggestion as it would be free.

  2. Check the yellow pages or ask your garbage pickup company.  Yes the town dump charges a dump fee.

  3. Look in the real yellow pages under "Landfills"

  4. You can try calling your town or city's public works department if they don't have the information you need on their website. There's no way to tell you if they will charge you at the dump because each municipality sets its own rules.  Where I live, I can put just about anything at the curb and the garbage men will take it so definitely call and ask how they do things where you live.

    Good luck.

  5. I think this will probably depend on which country you live in.  In the UK you will be able to ring your local council and get the information from there.  Most tips, as they are called in the UK are open 7 days a week until 22.00 hrs in the evening.  There is no charge for throwing stuff provided you take it in a car.  If you turn up in a commercial van though there is a hefty charge which is why most workmen these days tend to leave you with all the rubbish to get rid of yourself.

You will find that many other people will have used this kind of service too as it is normal that everybody will need to get rid of a load of stuff from time to time.  If your local council cannot provide you with the info I think it is more than likely that your neighbours will have the answer for you.

    Hope this helps

    Good Luck
