How do I find out who a phone number belongs to?

I am trying to find out who this phone number that keeps showing up on my phone belongs to. Can someone tell me how I can find out without paying to do so? If you know of a service that I do have to pay for but isn't a scam and I can get real info please let me know.

you can go on 411 and type in reverse phone

then you type in the phone number

it should work :)!

you can type it  in on google and it will give u the area code..or look at ur bill and it tells u where the person is calling from

www.whitepages.com click on the tab that says reverse look up.  Absolutely free and works everytime unless the number is unpublished then it will give you a city and state but no name.
