My deceased husband had a child out of wedlock 28 yrs ago prior to me knowing him. The girl gave the baby up for adoption. This would be my son's brother. (I know it is a boy) He would like to find him. What do I need to know? All I really know is the year of birth and that it was a boy. I think it was one of three hospitals. The mother of the child refuses to release any information. She pretends it never happened. She will not give any information to help my son. Where can we go to look, how do we search? We want a relationship with him. My son really wants to know his brother. He is an only child without him. Please help us to get started in the right direction.

  1. I can't add much beyond Gershom's response, as it's pretty hard to find someone without much info.  But, I did it, so I know it can be done.  The non-identifying info was a lot more helpful to  me than someone might think it would be.  There are often clues you don't even know will come in handy, so don't pass it by.  It was the only piece of information I had -- my non-identifying information about my first parents -- but it included some clues that made it possible for me to get what I needed.

  2. I wish I could help you.  the reason why I was drawn to this question was because I was adopted, and I just so happened to have turned 26 two days ago, plus my adoptive parents were expecting me to be a boy.  but you said this was in Illinios, so that's where the similarities end.  I wish you the best of luck.

  3. go to http://www.adopteerights.net and click on searchers.

Then find the state the adoption was finalized in and click on that link.

Up will come your state laws and you can read them and act accordingly depending on what the laws are. Many states allow siblings to join registries and get non id on eachother :)

    also join http://www.isrr.net

Start w/ getting non identifying information and then your search will develop from there.

  4. Without the exact birthdate it will be difficult.  Sign up to ISRR.net right away and also try this registry too, there is a section for people who don't have the full dob

    http://www.metroreunionregistry.org/inde...

Can you edit your answer to say which state the child was born in.  If your son is over 18 he may be able to sign up to a State run sibling registry
