How do I find the X & the Y-intercepts?

please help me how do we find the answer for the following equations:

a) y= 8-3x

b) y= - /x+10/

c) y= x(to the power of 4) - 25

d) (squared) = x+1

I really appreciate your help!

if I will be able to do these I will be able to pass my exam!

Let x = 0, then you solve for y, the y-intercept.

Let y = 0, then you solve for x, the x-intercept.

solve when x/y equals zero

to solve y in the first equation, you would put in zero for x, so it would be...

y= 8-3x0

y=8 - 0

y intercept = 8

to solve the x intercept in the first equation, you would put in zero for y, as so...

0      = 8 - 3X

+3X       + 3X

0 + 3X = 8

3X = 8

/3     /3

X = 2.666... or 2 2/3

In each of your problems:

set Y=0, you get the X-intercept  (x,0)

set X=0, you get the Y-intercept  (0,y)

Example: (a) (8/3, 0)  and (0,8)

i believe you can work out the rest.

to find x-intercepts you set y equal to 0.

to find y-intercepts you set x equal to 0.

a) 0 = 8 - 3x --> -8 = -3x ---> x = 2.67

   y = 8 - 3(0) ---> y = 8

so the x -intercept is 2.67 and the y -intercept is 8.

To find the x intercepts replace the Y=0

to find the Y intercepts replace the X=0

Ex. a) Y=8-3(0)

       so y-intercept is Y=8

           x-intercept is 0=8-3X , -3x=-8 , X= 8/3



     b) Y= -10    <-- y intercept

         - |x+10|=0 , -X-10=0 , -X=10, X= -10 <-- X intercept
