How do I find the latest statistics on the number of UK prisoners according to race or faith group?

I saw precisely this type of statistical information in El Mundo in Spain two years running.  It was illuminating as it broke down type of crime, numbers convicted, nationality of those convicted.  The information must be available but is a political hot potato - I could make a fair guess at who is involved in drug trafficking, people trafficking, terrorist activities, credit card fraud, brothel owning and so on.  Unless we are willing to deport immediately the large numbers of foreigners or those who have been given citizenship which we should now revoke then the politicians will block this type of crime statistic.

I am trying to find something similar for my law dissertation - I haven't been able to find anything out as authorities that I have approached do not want to give out that information, and the Home Office website did not have much information - it might be ok for what you want though
