  1. first add all the numbers together for a grand total.  next divide the grand total by the total numbers given.  in this case the number will be  6.  

    Example: 50+60+55+44+60+55=324

                   324/6=54         Your answer is 54

    Then the difference squared for each data point with this mean:

    For 50, e.g., it's 54-50=4 squared=16

    So it's 16 + 36 + 1 + 100 + 36 + 1 = 190

    Then you divide by the number of data points: 190/6 = 31.66667

    This is the variance,  the standard deviation is just the square root

    of this:  5.627
