How do I find the x and y intercepts in a fraction equation?

The problem is:

y=(2x-1)/(3-x)

How would I go about doing this? I'm totally stuck on my homework.

  1. for the y-intercept, x = 0

    this gives you (0 - 1) / (3 - 0) = -1/3

    so the y-intercept is (0 , -1/3)

    for the x-intercept, y = 0 , which happens when the numerator is 0

    therefore: 2x - 1 = 0

    x = 1/2

    x-intercept: (1/2 , 0)


  2. Let x = 0 and solve.

    y = -1/3 (y-intercept)

    Let y = 0 and solve.

    0(3-x) = 2x -1

    0 = 2x - 1

    1 = 2x

    1/2 = x

    So, y-intercept is (0, -1/3) and x-intercept is (1/2, 0)


  3. Let x = 0 then calculate y,

    Let y = 0 then calculate x.

    No matter fraction or not,

    That is how intercepts are found.

  4. To find the y-int substitute 0 in for x, then solve for y.

    To find the x-int substitute 0 in for y, then solve for x.

    I'll do the first

    y=(2x-1)/(3-x)

    y = (2(0)-1)/(3-0) = -1/3

    So the y intercept is (0,-1/3)

    Try the x intercept using the guidelines above.
