Question:

How do I find this slope intercept form?

A vertical line passes through (-4,-2)

Because it is vertical it has no slope.

But what would the answer be?

Also for another problem I was given:

Slope = 0.25

X-Intercept = 24

How do I find this one out? I got stuck

I thought maybe you would use y-y1=m(x-x1)

But that didn't work. I don't think...

  1. the first question does not pass through the y axis

    the x-intercept is -2

    second problem: y=mx+c

    at x intercept, y=0

    0.25x +c = 0

    0.25*24 +c = 0

    6+c = 0

    c = -6

    so the y intercept is y=-6

  2. No y = -2 is a horizontal line.

    A vertical line would be x = -4

    Hint for your second question. Which I'll let you try yourself first. If you need it in point slope form. The x intercept is at a point (24,0) and you have a slope of 0.25

    so now plug in to (y-y1) = m (x-x1)

    Plug in values y-0 = 0.25(x-24)

    y = 0.25x - 6

    So yes, I would agree with

    y = (1/4) x - 6 as slope intercept form. Good Job! ☺

  3. sinceit has no slope, then the slope is zero. therefore m = 0, so the equation is y - (-2) = 0 or simply y = -2.

    #2

    slope (m) = 0.25, x-intercept = 24 means (24,0)

    y - 0 = 0.25(x - 24)

    y = 0.25x - 6
