What train companies are there, is it just Amtrak or something else

depends ............where are you?  los angeles has the red, blue, green, orange and another line.  is it purple?  but for railing around the county, it's amtrak.  i ride all the time along the California coast.  the coast starlight is a gem.  I've gone as far as Vancouver.  spectacular in the winter.  type in amtrak coupons..  you'll never pay full fare.

You can pick the city, station, date, and the time closest to what you want to travel, also you can pick them up in the station or have them mailed (cheaper and easier to pick them up if theres a station in your city)
